Japan Is Racing to Test a Drug to Treat Covid-19

On March 28—last Saturday—Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told reporters that his government had begun the formal process for designating Avigan as Japan’s standard treatment for Covid-19.
A  critical step in that process involves clinical trials, one of which will conclude at the end of June.

What this means, in practical terms, is that patients who take the drug while their viral load is low or moderate may prevent it from making them any sicker. And there is some evidence that Favipiravir can achieve these same effects in viruses other than influenza.

.After Abe spoke to President Trump by phone about Avigan, the report says, the White House National Security Council began pressuring the government to accept a donation of Avigan from Japan, and asking the FDA to authorize its use on an emergency basis.

Basically the trend they are using to estimate the peak is by looking at when strict lock down measures are taken by govt , thing with usa is prathi state ki okko erripu governor gadu vadi ishtam ochina rules use chestunadu, so oka chota thaggey chances unna, migration valla malli peruguthuu untay,

you cant hit a moving target... enths strict lockdown lu pettina, cases thaggina, they will eventually go back up again... so like I said no one knows what is a peak for this .. idemi aids lekka kaadu kada  daily night modda ki thodugulu eskunte case lu thaggipothai anukodaniki... people will eventually have to come out of their houses, if not everyone then atleast some of them, so it will continue to be there

In the study, favipiravir showed better results than arbidol when administered to patients whose disease had been moderate up to that point - i.e. who had a fever and difficulty breathing, but who did not yet have severe shortness of breath and did not yet have a critically low amount of oxygen in their blood. Of these patients, around 71 percent who took favipiravir had recovered after seven days. It was just under 56 percent of the patients taking Arbidol.

 

 

Virologist Christian Drosten indicated that the patients were "given an enormous concentration of the substance". "14 percent of patients have had an increase in urea in their blood, which is a serious side effect." It is therefore not known whether favipiravir can be used permanently under these conditions. Elevated levels of urea in the blood may indicate an acute kidney problem.

trump declined to give mandatory shelter in place orders..he left it to governors to decide.
