Outside country more than 1 yr unte your h1b will be reset..u will need to reapply for h1b under quota or something if u have already finished if your 6 yrs..just my 2 cents..but attorney will be correct person to answer this kind of questions..

If it’s 3-4 months it’s okay if you go and come back being a contractor . Stamping unte haayiga velli randi . FT ayite they revoke visa so kashtam . Contracting employer ayite cheppi Vellandi. I was out of country for 3 months in 2016 . I went in between projects . Out of country unte payroll not needed . Good luck !

being on H1 , for a financial year you should atleast be in country for 180 days in total ani naaku gurthu-subject to correction

also being a FT, if u get laid off now, u are in tough spot as jobs are few and most of them are in hold. even if you find a consultancy to do H1 transfer within 60 days, the prospects of finding new assignments are low but not nill, since most ppl are ok with remote now.
