You don't know about afro Asian games I guess..

 

It was first mega sports event in Hyderabad after 1996 world cup match west Indies vs Zimbabwe.  I remeber those games very well.. Sania Mirza rose to fame during the success of that games..many of our athletes got exposure to world class competetion   and training facilities

These games where conducted during that time to attract more investments to Hyderabad.

Opposition criticised that Naidu was over spending money on games rather than distributing to farmers..that gave elevation to use. Rest is history.
