If anything , the major PSUs in Hyderabad were established way before 1995 . Hyderabad was home to DRDO , BHEL , prominent educational institutions , several pharmaceutical and chemical industries in the private sector , apart from IT companies too .

Today , IT companies are concentrated in one small area in the city , whereas the northern and eastern parts were housing PSUs , chemical industries , medical devices , pharmaceutical , research and educational institutions , which are the real backbone of Hyderabad ‘ s economy.

Hyderabad fell behind Bangalore and Chennai during 1995-2004 , in terms of growth in each and every sector . Fortunately , post 2004 , a diversification of economy with massive surge in pharmaceutical exports, cement industry , IT sector etc , where Hyderabad was already strong, took place . Post 2014 , aerospace and defence manufacturing have taken centre stage . Only if Hyderabad recorded higher growth in the late 1990 s , perhaps it would have been on a par with Bangalore .
