Coming to brands...APBCL buys liquor on tender basis, not on brands basis.

Cheap liquor, IML, IMFL, Domestic beer ani categories vuntayi..Givernment floats tenders for the requirement in each category and manufacturers supply to APBCL on category basis but not on brand basis.

Branding has additional expense. So when Givernment itself is the retailer, the companies will not care to spend on branding like promotion,royalty, etc and tend to supply newer brands with unknown names never heard of..Check with Tamil Nadu and you will find the same...this is the norm with any state which is also the retailer..

Don't forget "Youth star" whiskey manufactured in Kadapa. Of all the brands introduced recently, only Bira seems good but no point as you can't get it chilled due to shops here having no refrigerators. Also, shops are accepting cash only now. I remember reading around 2004-2005 that foreign IT companies are hesitant to set up shop outside Hyd due to many factors with lack of nightlife being one of the major factors. who knew that 15 years from then, we'd go backwards.
