I doubt the sponsor can have any say during peer review. cognitive bias or prejudice are highly implausible to eliminate. May be taking a note of potential reviewer’s conflicts of interest might help. Just a thought.

Everyone will have one. A programmed conflict of interest, do you think they won't in this case?  I don't think discussion or peer reviews can get an answer. Another paper will be published citing the fallacies. Again the conundrum will co-exits infinitely.

everyone will indeed have one. but the opinions/belief are not always binary in this case. Also, every work stemming from a radical idea will end up getting criticized vis-à-vis its assumed fallacies. but, that at least helps to set a base for a debate or more experimentation. That would be a head start for the research to come.
