Six more airports to be auctioned, announces FM

FM stresses on efficient airspace management for civil aviation as only 60 percent of the Indian airspace is freely available and announces following measures.

- Restrictions on utilization of the India airspace will be eased so that civilian flying becomes more efficient
- The govt anticipates Rs 13,000 Cr additional investment by pvt players in 12 airports. The AAI has awarded 3 airports out of 6 for operation and maintenance on PPP basis and  auction of six more airports in second round bid to commence immediately

Convergence of defence and civil MROs to be established to save money on maintenance, announces FM

India to become a global hub for Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO). The tax regime for the MRO ecosystem has been rationalized. Aircraft component repairs and airframe maintenance to increase from Rs 800 crores to Rs 2000 crores in three years, said Sitharaman, adding that focus would be on convergence between defence and civil and MROs.

Power distribution companies in UTs to be privatized, says FM

 Power distribution companies in Union Territories to be privatized to improve sub-optimal performance of discoms, announces FM. A Tariff policy with reforms will be released, including consumer rights, promotion of industry and sustainability of sector, she adds.

FM announces reforms to be brought about in the space sector

Speaking about the reforms in the space sector, the FM announced the following the measures to increase involvement of private sectors

1. Private sector companies shall be able to utilise ISRO facilities

2. Predictable policy and regulatory environment for private sector, future outer space travel to be opened up for private sector.

A lot of geo-spatial data available, liberal geo-spatial data policy will be brought in

Centre announces measures for social infrastructure projects

"Boosting private sector investment in social infrastructure projects through revamped viability gap funding scheme of Rs 8,100 crore. The govt will enhance the quantum of viability gap funding up to 30 per cent each of total project cost as VGF by Centre and state," says FM.

Nirmala Sitharaman announces reforms in atomic sector

Research reactor in PPP model shall be set up for production of medical isotopes to promote affordable cancer treatment, she said, adding that other measures were:

-facilities in PPP mode to use radiation technology  to be set up in food preservation and

-Robust start-up sector to be synergised with nuclear sector

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address a press conference at 11 am today to talk on the roadmap laid out to move towards an 'Aatmanirbhar' India.

This is the fifth press conference she will be addressing ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a Rs 20 lakh crore economic stimulus package last week.
