opening account on parents name in Senior Citizen Savings Scheme - 7.4% for max of 8 year term

anything else ?

Risky and what can v get for 5 to 10 lakh in real estate except for some smal plots in a remote location very far from highways ????

Going further, I don't think its not worth even considering FD's. Mutual funds and stocks may be better alternative.

Check Sovereign Gold Bonds scheme by RBI ...an alternative investment to buying physical gold with minimum assured returns against gold.

Here is honest real estate problem I have in my home town in india . 
 

sellers don’t sell unless you are from same caste . And the sellers who do have shitty property or over priced .
