Nancy Pelosi calls for immediate removal of 11 statues of Confederate soldiers from US Capitol

In a letter to the chairs of a joint committee that oversees the collection to which the statues belong, the House Speaker called for the immediate removal of the 11 statues of Confederate soldiers currently on display in the US Capitol's Statuary Hall. "I believe that there is no room for celebrating the violent bigotry of the men of the Confederacy in the hallowed halls of the United States Capitol," the letter read.
