So USA gave sabers , the most advanced air defense aircraft for free to Pakistan in return to joining SEATO. they destroyed Indias ground attack aircraft vampires. Our answer to sabres was a british trainer flight which was under developed but was identified by accident by Indian air force officers inspecting a different aircraft for the purchase. FOLLAND GNAT a very light weight wet wings superior in maneuvers ultimately defined as Saber slayers. THey went though multiple modifications and played crucial role in 1965 air war . However post war, HAL AJeet went through reliability and sustainability issues that killed many superior air officers. Quote

It s reputation is from the bus driver not its avionics.. and bus drivers are India Air force pilots. out of 11,000 aircrafts produced world wide INdia produced 840 aricrafts.. begenning 1974. MIG21 FL just costs 2 million dollars in 1974,. It made Indian air force stood against F 15 superior air power. Quote
