DummyVariable Posted July 14, 2020 Report Posted July 14, 2020 How many celestial bodies should be added to this list? Quote
Spartan Posted July 14, 2020 Report Posted July 14, 2020 first part is... Planets - I think observation was key for Science then and even now.. practically thinking, only those planets Sun, Mercury, Venus, Moon, Jupiter and Saturn were only visible to naked Eye. Thats how they might have zeroed in on those planets. Coming to Lunar nodes, North and South, just for the common mans terminology they might have grouped all the planets and nodes under the Graha's category. even now..if u explain Lunar nodes , and how they traverse and be cause of Eclipses, india lo common man ki septe evadiki ekkadu...to make them simple..they grouped them as grahas.. As TrollBait pointed out, the scientific research then was conveyed in simple terms so that lay man can understand...and over the period of time...everything got fcked up... same with the festivals....they were created to follow certain practices whcih would help to take advantage of what nature provides in that season... kaani festivals they emerged more as a religious folkfore .....ignoring the scientific terms... bostonbro Posted July 14, 2020 Report Posted July 14, 2020 strictly my personal findings: Greeks, babylonians, mesapatomians, sumerians were pioneers in finding the planets. Indians might have got the information from mesopotamia and made gods for each planet, then fairy tales....we could be in a saints dream if we allow the schizophrenic mind in function like in inception movie. WE COULD BE IN A SAINTS SIMULATION DREAM Quote

Question: Among those, Sun is not even a planet it's a Star. Moon is not a planet either, a natural satellite. Why is the order of planets jumbled? Mars before Mercury, Jupiter before Venus etc. What about Uranus, Neptune and Pluto? Lunar nodes ni planets ani ela telcharu? Graha = Planet kadaa. Indian products were not allowed to be sold even in local markets. No incentive for any enterprising Indian to be innovative, other than work with the british to exploit local resources. Quote

In Vedic Cosmology there is no upa graha all are Grahas including Sun and Moon moreover it is Geocentric. Quote

I do understand the scientific basis behind some of our beliefs, my question was geared more towards the fact that when these planets were classified we e still haven't had powerful telescopes that could account for the ones missing in the list. But with the addition of those, shouldn't these navagrahalu be re arranged as well. Also wasn't sure about the reason behind the jumbled order of hierarchy. I didn't mean you at all in my response. It was a general comment. Quote

Surya aka Sun is a star, moon is a natural satellite so how did they know there were going to be 9 planets. Oh also, Pluto isnt a planet technically. It's a dwarf planet. So your explanation doesn't hold water here. You are saying they included the 2 lunar nodes since they wanted to get to the magical figure of 9? Quote

Indian knowledge was lost. and the current Indians should try to build on what's is available in the modern world than trying to romanticize as if India was the center of universe back then.
