It is the same in South Africa too. They look Indian, but they aren’t exactly Indian. Reunion, Kenya and Uganda too I think.

I met some of them in Europe. They still are a very close knit community and marry within. Sometimes they marry Indian immigrants. I am not so sure about intermixing tbh given that they have been with the British, Dutch, French and the Portuguese for so long and hardly have any mixed heritage. Nikki Minaj is one I think.

How many generations can marry within? Eventually two generations from now on, people will be more open about intermixing.
