Tirupati temple gifts precious land to CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's Guru

Hyderabad: Amid controversies surrounding the Tirumala Balaji temple administration, the Andhra Pradesh endowments department has regularised a piece of 4,817 square feet land under 'occupation' of Visakha Sri Sarada Peetham belonging to chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's guru, Swaroopanandendra Saraswati Swamy.

Also regularised was the 1,870 square feet land under occupation of another spiritual body, Mounanda Swamy Mutt on the hill shrine.

Endowments department special chief secretary JSV Prasad issued the order on June 4. For the additional land, Mounanda Swamy Mutt will pay a lease amount of Rs 374 and Sarada Peetham Rs 964. This is in accordance with a resolution passed in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board on December 28, 2019, the order said.

 

 

The TTD executive officer made the recommendation for the regularisation of the additionally occupied land on January 21 this year.

Strangely, in April second week, the TTD asked the Karnataka government to return 1.8 acres of the 7.05 acres of land under its possession for decades, as the temple was facing a shortage of land on the hill. This happened when the Karnataka government team led by endowments commissioner Sindhuri met the TTD officials for permission for construction on the land under its possession.

Land given to Peetham during YS Rajasekhara Reddy regime

Land was allotted to Sarada Peetham, along with several other spiritual bodies between 2005 and 2007, during the YS Rajasekhara Reddy regime, when T Subbarami Reddy was chairman of the TTD board. The lands now being regularised are unauthorised extension of the spiritual bodies on lands allotted to them earlier.

People familiar with the Tirumala temple administration wonder how huge constructions could come upon these occupied lands on the hill shrine, when not even a single brick or a handful of sand can go bypassing the checkpoint at Alipiri, the entrance to the hill.

"We are asking the temple administration to maintain a strict vigil at Alipiri and ensure that such lapses would not recur," said BJP Tirupati leader and former member of the TTD board, Bhanu Prakash Reddy.

The Telugu Desam Party took serious exception to the regularisation of the land occupied by the CM's guru. TDP former legislator B Umamaheswara Rao said the government resorted to favoritism by regularisation of the land under occupation of Sarada Peetham.

Late last month, the TTD faced protests from Hindu groups for putting 23 immovable assets of the Lord in neighbouring Tamil Nadu for auction. The TTD later withdrew its decision and declared that no asset of Lord Balaji would ever be sold.

Nowadays, even godmen want to publicize themselves using the name of the cine celebrities. Swamy Swaroopananda turned out to be no different when he mentioned the likes of Chiranjeevi and Rajinikanth among his visitors.

But, singer Sunitha wasn’t that happy for mentioning her name in an interaction. The godman took her name as one of his visitors. But, the singer didn’t like it and the video post she chanced upon. She slammed Swamy Swaroopananda for even mentioning her name.

In a post she said, “I didn’t know why he mentioned my name.” Well, that clearly indicates that the godman took her name quite randomly but didn’t realize that everyone wouldn’t be happy with that kind of random things.

The Swamiji wanted to boast off that he has both celebrities and commoners as his devotees. Ahem! He didn’t know Sunitha would lash out at him.
