It depends on the area and also the hours you put in. Yes even 300k is possible for general medicine depending on the hospital chain and location, rural locations typically pay you more as they have a shortage of doctors. 

My wife's best friend is a family medicine doctor who makes 180k one hour North of Houston. She likes it that way as she only has to work 13 days of the month and in urgent care, so she gets to spend a lot of time with her one year old baby

My frnd did his residency and fellowship he chose to be in a city and a hospital which in one of the top in the country where he did fellowship and ended up earning less but if he ever chooses to be in some other city a rural area he might earning so much that he can buy a house in that rural area with his one year of salary and still live comfortably for all these he has just 16 weeks of work weeks throughout the year where he actually attends the patients, rest he does research and travel all this he achieved by 31.

their internal angle, lot of satisfaction and no time to think about anything else

PCP in a clinic makes around 200k but internist/hospitalize makes starting pay around $280k. They workalterntaive weeks but day will be longer on working weeks.
