I think taking long term disability while you are sick will keep you in valid status. Not 100% sure though.

Long term disability will pay your wages. Might not be 100%. 

but not sure he was signed up for that benefit.  It is not free and employees have to pay for it.

Yes. Most of the contractors won't even take life insurance thinking same.  I know some guys who didn't even used to take health insurance before penalty system was there. 

If you care about your family , think seriously about talking these.

Thats sad man...Continue to work even in life threatening situation to maintain status and support family....I cannot even imagine the stress he might have went through.. 

 

It might not be like they cannot survive without his job...but still

I didnt know that..if that is the case....may be better if we would have taken enough rest and just not worry about work...I assume he must have some savings as well..anyways I am not sure what issues they have.. Shows importance of Life insurance
