Covid played a major part  but the economy was slowing down for a long time .

Out of all the countries in the world India had the harshest lock down violating all civil liberties. More people died because of lack of medical care because of closed hospitals and long marches to their villages than because of covid. Without the harsh lockdown India would have been close to herd immunity now, instead now we are hitting peaks when every other country is on it's way down.

UK went for herd immunity, and admitted that it was wrong strategy. Sweden also admitted that it was wrong.

ofcourse Modi's lockdown was shortsighted, but not becuase he didn't aim for herd immunity (which is basically mass murder), but because he didn't update testing and treatment infrastructure fast enough. He's incompetent.

the advantage that Modi has is, Indian economy can bounce back really fast. because the only structural issue with the economy is lack of credit for msme, and infra bottlenecks.

the enthusiasm to get ahead in life is present in abundance in India, and therefore Modi can never fail with the economy, even if he fcuks up a million times.
