HR did not respond back on rescheduling.

I attempted phone round today.

It was all good until the coding challenge came up ... Boggle word search using DFS....couldnt explain how to do diagonal seach in boggle board... feeling very low seeing interviewer reaction..

@redsox and other FAANG experts ... is this too basic of a coding challenge?

Phone interview ante with recruiter or technical interview. Recently I heard only OA online assessment and then virtual onsite which is 5 rounds. What is this phone interview?

if you are not confident take time or else cool off period will be 1/2 yearS and it depends on team  and their review.

I remember a similar problem. Is it this one?

https://leetcode.com/problems/word-search-ii/description/

You have to use a Trie and honestly if you haven’t encountered a Trie before, it’s hard to come up with a solution on the spot. It’s a hard problem.

Dont take it hard on yourself man. You weren’t prepared. It’s okay. Also, don’t just attempt one company when you are interviewing. Set up a couple of them in a row. Because even a single bad interview will lead to you not getting an offer. And it’s a numbers game.

I made the same mistake and interviewed when I was not ready and took a couple of hits. Take a step back and prepare well. All the best 👍

Phone interview is Technical. Interviewer will share a coderpad(or similar tool) session and you have to solve the problem there while explaining your thought process on the phone.

Nope. It's not basic.

very certainly not basic. This is kind of medium+ to hard range.  Did the interviewer tell you even cells in diagonal can form a word?. if so is it straight diagonal (i.e) (1.,1) (2,2) or diagonal + vertical/horizontal (1,1) (2,2) (2, 3) form a word?.

I suspect the interviewer wants only horizontal or vertical as adjacent cells.

To answer your question,  if you are at position (r, c), then its immediate diagonal elements are (r+1, c+1), (r-1, c-1), (r+1, c-1) or (r-1, c+1) basically (r + or - 1, c + or -1).

Also i think you may be little unlucky because i personally don't think this is a phone screen level question, more like onsite. Some times Amazon interviews are kind of inconsistent as well. So be kind to your self.

The key to interviewing, is keep trying a lot, a lot and don't worry about failure. and something will click. Every interview is like a learning experience for both interviewee and interviewer.
