I don’t see much difference between them one is selling ads and the other is selling its own products.

social media by itself is not bad. 

but it has tremendous power, and those who control that media often walk that tight line what's moral and immoral.

promoting one type of content (say HIndutva, White Nationalism) gives them lots of eyeballs, and they do it (or let their algorithms do it).

humans, who mostly don't hold any specific view and prefer to mimic others in a constant search for social status, will amplify whatever the social media decides to promote.

but that's only part of the problem.

the other part is that, earlier people used to be comfortable in their little enclaves... everyone had their own groups where they live in an echo chamber.. but now, with a couple of companies monopolizing the media, everyone is forced to deal with the other's view point.

and it has escalated the conflict.

like how I purposefully sh1t on everything this db holds dear, just because I'm an asshole who was offended at how low iq morons here mocked me. hehe...

the only enclaves that are safe spaces still are very niche ones. most of the others are clubbed in with the rest and its chaos.

but i dont think anyone has sinister plans to control the world. They are just going with the system.

but its not only in netflix..its there in youtube also...

i think there are settings to disable that....

social media gives a platform to people to mimic each other.. mimic their love, kindness, and most importantly their frustration.

that's the difference. humans are mimetic beings. almost all of them have no original thought, and are just trying to keep up with the crowd and not be left behind.

I don't think anyone cares about stuff like that. 

they are okay with fake news and hate speech because their social circle is okay with it.

those who are not okay with it, have their own little circles. 

social media pits both of them against each other in a way that was not possible earlier.

anyway, whats fake and not fake can always be contested. and requires high intelligence to parse fake content, which most people don't possess.

It’s a good documentary

its the same reason I stopped using Facebook 4 yrs ago.. I’m still having my account active and kept app in my mobile too but I open it once in 2 weeks sometimes once a month,,

it’s an addiction unless you have strong will power
