BJP’s Antarvedi Politics – Prof K Nageshwar

The BJP in Andhra Pradesh is thoroughly discredited by denial of special status. The party is pushed to the corner on the Amaravati question. It’s a diabolical approach towards YSR Congress further disarmed the party. Amidst such a chaotic context, Somu Veerraju led Andhra Pradesh BJP has embarked upon its time-tested political project. Mixing religion and politics has always been the saffron party’s unique selling proposition. Such a politico-religious mobilisation has catapulted the BJP from India’s political periphery into a formidable ruling dispensation.

The pan-Hindu mobilisation helped the party to tide over the caste divisions in northern India. The BJP led by an ideological strongman like Somu Veerraju, has now decided to implement the same experiment in Andhra Pradesh, the state unknown for large-scale communal mobilisation.

The immediate political strategy is not to dislodge the ruling YSR Congress, but replace TDP as a major opposition party.

The Antarvedi issue has come in handy for the new state party chief. The Christian religious beliefs of the chief minister’s family have given the saffron campaign new ammunition. But, the BJP leaders are cautious in their approach. Somu Veerraju and GVL Narasimha Rao, for instance, equated YS Jagan’s rule to that of TDP. The BJP calls both the parties anti-Hindu. Thus, the BJP leadership is taking every care to avoid TDP gaining from its anti-Jagan crusade.

Not realising this political trap, the TDP leadership jumped on to the saffron bandwagon on Antarvedi. The gruesome act of setting the sacred chariot afire is certainly the most deplorable sacrilegious act. Any laxity in investigating the crime would only embolden forces of politico-religious mobilisation. But, the TDP joins BJP in linking the incident at Antarvedi with that of the alleged anti-Hindu character of YS Jagan government. Such a strategy would only benefit the BJP and alienate TDP from the secular voter. The chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy fired a salvo by ordering CBI probe into the Antarvedi incident. The BJP led central government has to act now. Thus, the YSR Congress has cleverly checkmated the opposition. The TDP lacks the courage to fight the Modi regime, as central agencies have to bring the guilty to justice.

Somu Veerraju’s parleys with Chiranjeevi and the BJP embracing Pawan Kalyan are part of its social engineering. Media reports suggest that BJP’s new state party chief has also consulted the kapu icon Mudragda.

A combination of pan-Hindu mobilisation and adept social engineering has brought BJP to power in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, etc. Andhra Pradesh now turns into a saffron political laboratory.

The conversion drive in Andhra Pradesh has become a serious issue and has actually gone to over drive from times of YSR.

Just look at the number of massive churches being converted in every corner of AP. In countless Andhra Hindu-dominated villages, churches outnumber temples. I guess that once a critical minimum of Christian population presence is reached in states like Andhra Pradesh,Right now at least 30% of AP Population has been converted.

Why the hell is the state paying to 60,000 Rs to jeruslam yatra. Is Jeruslam yatra something like Hajj. I am not even  sure if christians have a custom of Jeruslam yatra.

All the village volunters posts have been filled with christians in majority of positions. How can one blatantly support one religion at a state level.

In every area they have built huge churches. For Ex: Take a drive from Kakinada to Draksharamam, the entire path by the side of river canals have 10 times more churches than temples

In Uttara andhra, they were always big churches from 1960's, built by missionaries and had foreign missionaries coming to treat people etc. But they were quite subdued and there was no major social activity and conversion activity.

But now they built huge evangelical churches in middle of small town and are conducting all kinds of social activities for new year etc. They conduct gathering for young 8-15 year olds in the neighborhood. kids in the neighbourhood are being told at the churches that conducting Hindu festivals is bad and saitan will come visit them.

The worst thing, is state is facilitating the conversion activity.

once upon a time conversions were financed by funds from foreign sources etc, but now the churches are financed locally.

The pastors are pushing all the working members to donate a fixed percentage of their monthly income. i know a number of young women and men who donate 25% of their monthly income to their churches.

They have built so many churches that they are now fighting for people. Especially in Krishna, Godavari districts they have far too many churches and now they are infighting. For Ex: The catholic churches in Guntur are now losing followers to the protestant churches.

The biggest joke in all this is: A Mormon church branch has been opened in Vizag, Majority of christians dont even consider mormons to be christians. Mormons with their golden underwear and alien planet theory are speaking that their religion is perfect. 🤣🤣
