If you are leasing xfinity modem, go to service center and get a replacement wireless gateway. Don’t connect another router to existing xfinity device

Correct - now I have two routers.

Since it’s my own modem-router is a weak router, can I have it not work as router?

nope, modem if turned on will always transmit...so better to give it away..

either use Modem(with Wifi)   or Modem + WiFi router...but not both.

DOCIS 3.0 modem tesko, and get better router...

Check the channels on which the different access points are transmitting the WiFi signal. If both access points are transmitting on the same channel it will lead to collision.

disable wifi in modem first.. just use router one.. i guess you are using motorola arris router which s^cks big time.

i use motorola modem/router for xfinity with wifi disabled and amazon eero router.
