India didn't get freedom, just transfer of power happened.. nothing substantial happened to people at ground level when transfer of power happened.. edo mana santosham kosam this independence event is blown up. Just local politicians replaced brits.. 

people getting better life is a constant process which visionaries like gandhi, Nehru are well aware.. they knew chasing away brits and capturing power from them is not useful long-term solution. so, instead they fought for their rights which were passed as multiple acts in British India.. 

simply, they didn't give importance to the people at helm, but the administrative framework.. 

Nehru & Gandhi are true visionaries.. they had vision for next 100-150 years at least. They believed pakistan will not survive as country, and if India stays as a true secular, pak will be merged back in few years. but then rise of hindutva in India (which Nehru & gandhi discouraged) is serving as reason for pakistan existing as seperate country till now.
