experts/seniors - i think there is a limit to file h-1b extns w previous employer's approved I-140 ?

Generally for 140 approved, no limit. 
 

but u saying previous employer ani - so not sure.

PERM ey 9 months to 1 Year time taking, i-140 3-6 months

Ok.. do we need to be in payroll during this time ? Can employer file without me on his payroll. Test case - FT is in pipeline & thought of going back to x-mesthri as well.

GC is future employment. No need to be an employee to start gc process.
