I was comparing the albums of both versions

one version completely sung by SPB

one version tamil was by Mano.

Ilayaraja loves Mano, he is the one that named him Mano actually. 

So to encourage him and make him more famous, he did that. Remember Geetanjali was a dubbed movie in Tamil

Yes Mano was criticized for having a voice very similar to SPB and some people even said he was trying to copy SPB. That's why he sang Mukkala mukabla in a very different voice, as well as Thillana Thillana in Muthu to showcase his own versatility.

Mano himself said that in an interview, that Rahman asked him to modulate his voice to that of RD Burman in Mehbooba o mehbooba. He also wanted to answer his critics that said he was an SPB clone, of course he doesn't have the range of SPB or the versatility but Mano is a very very good playback singer

emundii balayya babu and tollywood lo tokkesaru big shots coz he is a direct threat more importantly he tried to put his hands in other crafts as in writing screenplay so 2 boats sametha will not work but he really made some good movies in tamil
