That is a tactic many managers apply on people who think they are very smart. They let them think that way and praise them for everything they do to get their work done. He is basically playing with you by boosting your ego.

I don’t know insulting your spouse works in the long term. Once he thinks you are not worth it, you are out. Never take anyone for granted.
