Democraticcompulsion Posted October 10, 2020 Report Posted October 10, 2020 You can have a good career. But salaries are not comparable to IT jobs. Clear ga plan cheyyali. Six sigma green belt, black belt, oka track. Project management inko track. Design engineering lo future, growth rondu limited. But satisfying jobs. Quote

India lo ayithey , maximum mech engineers join IT jobs but core field jobs antey most people I know get employed in automotive sector , car , bike , commercial vehicle ,etc companies . Other jobs antey I know a few people employed by aerospace companies , boeing, airbus contractors . Oil & gas sector jobs in gulf , renewable energy , etc Basic ga india lo R & D chaala thakuva , very hard to get a well paying core sector job without being from a top college and being extremely motivated . It's a good field but ask the student to be prepared to switch to IT job at graduation . Higher studies ki chaala scope unna field , he has plan very advanced on which program to attend to .extremely varied courses untayi like fluid dynamics , optical engineering , aerodynamics ,etc Quote

Better go for civil engineering , lot of jobs available in core field . India will always need lot more civil engineers , lots of jobs in gulf comparable to IT pay in US . That doesn't mean mech is worse but due to nature of our policies we don't have many good mech engineer jobs Quote

Nandhi Posted October 10, 2020 Report Posted October 10, 2020 I don't know how many here in this group are mechanical engineers that gave a suggestion. I am a mechanical engineer working as a design engineer. It is comparatively difficult to get a job in mechanical engineering in US given fact is you cannot fake Mechanical experience which is difficult to do as that of real experience. Also here the salary is very good as also in India. Also you can always go to software side if you ever want to. Problem with mechanical engineering in US is few companies sponsor, reason is it takes time to be mechanical engineer and the companies don't want to employ temp workers to deal with immigration status. My suggestion is if he likes to be mechanical engineer let him be and he always can go do a software job if he decide to. Quote
