రవీన్ అహుజా అనే వ్యక్తి, ఆయన భార్య స్నేహ విడాకులకు దరఖాస్తు చేసుకున్నారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో స్నేహ అహుజా కూడా తన అత్తవారింట్లోనే ఉంటోంది. కాగా విడాకులకు దరఖాస్తు చేసిన తమ కోడలు ఇంట్లో ఉండరాదంటూ రవీన్‌ తండ్రి సతీష్ అహుజా న్యాయస్థానాన్ని ఆశ్రయించారు. ఈ కేసులో దిల్లీ హైకోర్టు సదరు యువతి అత్తారింట్లో ఉండేందుకు అనుమతినిస్తూ తీర్పు వెలువరించింది. కాగా, ఈ తీర్పును సతీష్ చందర్‌ సుప్రీం కోర్టులో సవాల్ చేశారు. ఆ ఇల్లు తన స్వార్జితమని.. ఇందులో తన కుమారుడికే హక్కు లేనప్పుడు.. కోడలికి ఏ విధంగా ఉండే హక్కు లభిస్తుందని ఆయన ప్రశ్నించారు.

కాగా ఈ వాదనను సుప్రీం ధర్మాసనం కొట్టివేసింది. స్నేహ, రవీన్‌ల విడాకుల ప్రక్రియ కొనసాగుతున్నప్పటికీ.. ఆమెకు తన అత్తవారింట్లో ఉండే హక్కు ఉందని కోర్టు స్పష్టం చేసింది. దేశంలో గృహ హింస ప్రబలంగా ఉందని.. రోజూ మహిళలు ఏదో ఒక రూపంలో హింసను ఎదుర్కొంటున్నారని న్యాయస్థానం పేర్కొంది. జీవితకాలమంతా కుమార్తె, సోదరి, భార్య, తల్లి, భాగస్వామి ఇలా పలు రకాల పాత్రలను పోషించే మహిళలు వివక్ష ఎదుర్కొంటున్నారని ఈ సందర్భంగా సుప్రీం అభిప్రాయపడింది. గృహ హింస చట్టం ప్రకారం.. మహిళలకు విడాకుల అనంతరం కూడా అత్తవారింట్లో నివసించే హక్కు ఉంటుందని సర్వోన్నత న్యాయస్థానం వివరించింది.
