Kool_SRG Posted December 19, 2020 Author Report Posted December 19, 2020 Next match Warner will be joining with the team...More power to Australia. Sydney’s COVID-19 breakout forces Australia to fly Warner to Melbourne early Sydney’s latest COVID-19 breakout has reportedly forced Cricket Australia to fly opener David Warner to Victoria. Nine revealed on Saturday afternoon the left-hander and Sean Abbott would head south from NSW in a bid to avoid them being stranded if the borders are closed between the two states. The pair aren’t currently with teammates in Adelaide after staying home due to injuries sustained leading into the Test series with India. The Boxing Day Test will begin in a week on December 26, with the pair needing to isolate for three days before joining the Australian team hub. The isolation period is part of the biosecurity protocols established by Cricket Australia along with the relative states and territories. The Australian and Indian squads will fly into Melbourne following the First Test in South Australia, which won’t be affected even if the border is shut between NSW and Victoria. But it is a factor in the movement of Warner and Abbott to the state, with it being unclear if the Victorian government would have given them exemptions if a border closure occurs. If fit, Warner is a certainty to resume his spot at the top of the order after failures from Joe Burns and makeshift opener Matthew Wade in the first innings against India. “I am [hopeful], that‘s one that I never want to miss out on,” Warner told SEN. “It‘s my first missed Test through injury, so I’m obviously very disappointed with that. “With the big series that it is, it‘s devastating to miss a Test but I know that the guys who are walking out there today are going to put their best foot forward. “Hopefully we start the series well and try and win this one moving onto Boxing Day and get that momentum into the new year.” The COVID-19 situation in New South Wales forced by Fox Sports and Channel 7 to stand down and send home a number of key personnel and commentators. Fox Cricket’s Brett Lee flew home to Sydney on Friday while both networks have sent a number of staff to undergo Covid testing. On Friday night it was revealed former Test captain — and northern beaches resident — Ian Chappell had been ordered to leave the Adelaide Oval. Quote
