The Home Minister, Mr. T. Devender Goud, has said that the State Government will take assistance from CBI and Interpol and probe the two cases of racketeering in ``termination of international (ISD) calls,'' bypassing the VSNL gateway and BSNL network, which were unearthed in Hyderabad recently with the name of Mr. M. Anil Kumar, son-in-law of the Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, being associated with one of them. Replying to a three-hour debate in the Assembly on Friday under a Calling Attention motion tabled by Mr. G. Butchaiah Chowdary, Telugu Desam, and others, the Home Minister, however, avoided making any commitment on a full-scale inquiry by the CBI or by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court which Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy repeatedly sought during his speech earlier, challenging the official version linking his son-in-law to the racket. Earlier, there was a furore in the House over the alleged involvement of Anil Kumar in the racket. Mr. Goud said the investigation in both cases was in progress with bank accounts, foreign remittances and hawala payments being examined. The truth indicating the depth and spread of the racket was yet to come out. In his oral reply with potshots at Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy which, however, were vehemently protested by Congress members, Mr. Devender Goud said the racket had caused the VSNL- BSNL a loss of Rs. 50-60 crores. The major issue at stake was national security as the racketeers could get direct link with the satellite bypassing the VSNL-BSNL system. Referring to the explanation given by the Congress leader regarding his son-in-law's non-involvement, the Minister insisted that Anil Kumar figured in the case and objected to his being taken to the court for surrender in the government car which Dr. Reddy was using in his official capacity as Leader of the Opposition. The purpose for which this car was used could not be equated with that of the cars of Ministers who used them for taking their families to the recent Great Mall of Hyderabad as cited by Dr. Reddy during his speech earlier, the Minister contended. The two-page written answer gave out the official version of the sequence of events, stating that a case was booked by the Hyderabad police under Sections 4, 5 and 20 (1) of Indian Telegraphic Act, 1855, and Section 420 of IPC following a complaint by the Vigilance Wing of the DoT on November 21 this year that the racketeers had ``misused'' Tata Tele Services for ``termination of incoming international voice calls'' bypassing VSNL gateway and BSNL network. While VSNL was the sole agency authorised for such calls, illegal operators could pass on the ISD calls by Internet, using a sophisticated machinery. The statement said B. V. Satish Kumar, K. Sriranga Prasad, Kusumba Sridhar and M. Anil Kumar, under a ``criminal conspiracy,'' had fraudulently used the Tata Telephones for termination of calls by establishing ``dummy companies'' in hired premises (Topaz building) in which sophisticated equipment was installed. Sriranga Prasad and Satish Kumar were arrested and remanded to judicial custody while Anil Kumar and Kusumba Sridhar surrendered before the 21st Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Nampalli. Later two other accused were also taken into custody-Srinivasa Raju and Satyanarayana. In the second case, two accused persons - Ashok Patel and Nimesh Patel - operated similarly from their hired premises in Chenoy Trade Centre. The main accused, Nimesh Patel, was arrested along with two others-Koushal Patel and Srikumar Patel. The Home Minister wound up the reply with an indirect dig at the Leader of the Opposition, stating that everybody in the State knew the latter's family and its history. The Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation had entered into a joint venture agreement with – hold your breath – Rakshana Steels for mining iron ore in Khammam and Warangal districts in February 2009 when YSR was the chief minister. You want to take a guess on how much land was given on lease – 1.37 lakh acres. Ofcourse, Rakhsana steels denied that Bro.Anil Kumar was holding any position in their company. Until the next day when regional newspapers published details of registered addresses of both companies in the same apartments! (unfortunately I am not able to find a snapshot of those reports. If only telugu newspapers maintained a proper archive section, life would be so much easier. Sigh!) And so now we have the spectacle of 1.37 lakh acres of land being alloted for iron ore mining, to a company that is promoted by Bro.Anil Kumar (I won't even bother using the word "alleged" here!). Mark it in bold people – The Chief Minister's son-in-law is given a lease to mine iron ore over 1.37 lakh acres. Investigative media like the NDTV did not find the time to neither visit the address nor express outrage. Spirited opposition attacks on the government in Assembly elicited this response from the govt. – Rakshana Steels will only transport the steel from the mining area. Actual mining will be done by the government only! And if you still insist that this is a opposition conspiracy, then you need to answer why this same Congress government at the centre cancelled the lease in August 2010 (after YSR's death and Jagan's revolt), that it only allowed in the first place?
