He should be very knowledgeable person in his field and might know lot about the company systems/processes within his dept, generally  companies won’t let go the those knowledgeable people unless if his work is non critical/priority.

No.

My point was being on H1 and staying long and in a bad situation when layoff happens.

If there is no Visa dependency and work is interesting & good prospects no point in switching.

 

for second point it depends on your priorities. I Have done both.

With recent changes to h1 i feel contracting is better to maintain status rather FT.

Of course you will lose the FT benefits. It's up to individual.
