Results of the Oxford vaccine will arrive “pretty soon”, according to a leading member of the project, who said three and a half billion doses will be made if it proves to be safe and effective.

The UK has ordered 100 million doses of the Oxford vaccine, which is being made by Cambridge-based pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca. Some 40 million doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, which is 90 per cent effective in preventing coronavirus in people according to preliminary findings from the late trial stage, have also been ordered.
