Twitter’s Apology For Hurting The Sentiment Of Indians

Twitter India has apologized to Indian government after the social media giant faced backlash for showing Indian union territory Ladakh in China. Speaking to the media, Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) chairperson Meenakshi Lekhi on Wednesday said “Twitter India has written an official apology for geo-tagging error in Indian map and ensured it will be rectified by November 30.”

In a letter signed by Damien Karien, Chief Privacy Officer of Twitter Inc, Twitter has apologized for hurting the sentiments of Indians. In October, JPC took a swipe at Twitter for the geographical error in Indian map and issued a notice asking for written explanation in the form of an affidavit after conducting a 2-hour meet with members from Twitter.

Parliamentary committee felt the social media giant’s explanation on showing Ladakh as part of China was inadequate and said ‘any disrespect towards the country’s sovereignty and integrity is totally unacceptable’.
