HIV attacks CD4 T cells which are the ones that create an immune response. That's why the immune system is compromised.

Common cold doesn't attack T cells. Common cold vaccine is useless because the time it takes to mutate is less than the time it takes to create an immune response. So, each time you get common cold is like getting vaccinated to that strain of mutation.
