GHMC election 2020: Nomination process to end today

  • Survey predicts good showing by saffron party
  • Compared to 10% in 2016, BJP expected to increase up to 30%
  • TRS would be around 35 to 40%
  • No change in percentage of Congress

It is tough time for TRS which lost in recent assembly  by-election for the first time and rearing to go in the big GHMC poll to show its strength. According to a pre-poll survey conducted by crowd wisdom, there is a drastic increase in the percentage of vote share and seats for BJP when compared to 2016.

Dent in TRS votes

Survey predicts that BJP will attain 30% of vote share increasing its tally to 40-45 seats compared to 3 in 2016, while TRS may lose nearly 50 percent of seats, ending with 50 to 52 seats. There will be not that much impact in seats of the Congress party with earlier had one seat and may end up with 3 to5 seats.Tally of seats, according to the survey,  will be BJP 43-45, TRS 55, AIMIM 43 and Cong 5.

TRS in a tearing hurry

After Dubbaka loss, ruling party doesn’t want to give chance or time for BJP to settle down for GHMC poll. As a precautionary  measure to  offset the lose in Dubbaka, Municipal Administration Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), lured greater voters with reduction in property tax up to 50% and rehabilitation for  heavy rains victim with 10,000 instantly. The GHMC commissioner has been sending message by mobile to the citizens of Greater Hyderabad informing them of the reduction in tax. It was never done before.  But this may or may not satisfy  the voters if the prediction of the survey is correct. Even TRS leaders are in a mood to go for elections post-Pongal, but the change in date and idea came after BJP’s dramatic drubbing of the TRS at Dubbaka. The leadership has recognised that the anti incumbency is increasing aginst the ruling party among the voters. The decision of conducting polls earlier than expected show how TRS is worried about opposition’s growing  strength  rather than mood of the voters.

Test for KTR

There are many aspirants in the party and we can expect many of the sitting corporators  not getting tickets for a second chance as per present scenario.TRS is looking for young leaders who can carry party strongly into the public till the next assembly elections.  While Dubbaka was a test for Harish Rao who narrowly missed the target, the ensuing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections and the elections to Warangal and Khmmam corporations to follow are an acid test to KCR’s son KTR. The minister has been working for the elections even during the campaign for Dubbaka was going on. He did not campaign for Dubbaka was attending to the work in city which was in floods.

BJP expected to put up good show

No doubt after a long gap, BJP is on upper hand compared to the TRS for the first time. After Bandi Sanjay was made party’s president, there was added enthusiasm in the cadre and leaders with positive vibrations. All leaders across Telangana are united with josh and made impossible task appear  easy in Dubbaka and same scene will be sought to be repeated in Hyderabad with supporters thronging  into greater to campaign for the party.  Main points they collected for campaign are: promise on double bedrooms made during last elections not implemented, drainage systems, rehabilitation work regarding the recent floods was tardy, Hyderabad roads are in a very poor condition without repairs for years.

BJP takes the poll seriously

BJP is taking GHMC polls as a serious issue. Party president J.P. Nadda announced Bhupendra Yadav as in-charge for GHMC polls. Yadav had worked as in-charge for Bihar assembly polls earlier. He is party’s national general secretary and Rajya Sabha member and a trouble shooter.

Bhupender Yadav to oversee

Four ministers from different States will work with Bhupendra Yadav  as members of a special committee. Karnataka’s educational minister Dr. Sudhakar will be co-convener for the committee and Maharashtra’s former Minister Ashish Shelar, Pradeep Singh Vaghela from Gujarat, Satish Reddy, MLA from Karnataka will be members of the committee.

Congress loses its mark

Congress party is losing its mark in greater Hyderabad which fared badly even in 2016. Party has been mainly dependent on star campaigner Revanth Reddy, MP,  but can’t swing much as expected as per political analysts. Former MP Anjana Kumar yadav will accompany Revanth in campaign but party may end up with poor show once again. There is no support from National Congress to local leaders and internal rift in  TPCC is letting down party badly.

Jana Sena to contest

Jana Sena party, which is ally of BJP has decided to contest in the GHMC elections as per latest reports. Recently, party’s chief had a meeting with student unions and state committees on this issue, but party can’t influence much in attracting voters except few settlers in some areas.
