Precisely the bump in the road that GM is struggling to do with cadillac. 

GM wants it's luxury brand to go all electric but dealers aren't on board, so what GM has to do, since it's bound contractually.... 

It has to buy out the dealers out of their obligation and they are literally running for the money to do so. As this yr has been harsh on them. 

VW will also come to this but down the line as they will be churning out ICE cars for someone time. And phasing out slowly...  

I have not seen one big guys go and secure the battery deals that they need to start making to fight the coming change in mkt.  

GM dependant on LG chem for their pouch style cells.

None of the other manufacturers have shown serious commitment for acquiring battery capacity or charging infrastructure. VW was forced to spend money on charging infrastructure as part of their diesel gate settlement. They did a great job so far, but none of the other major manufacturers joined hands with them... It's a win , win situation.

LAZR that debuted their lidar systems , shared it in their road map that only by adoption and constant iteration can they get the current systems cost by 50% by 2026  and they still are far down the line in terms to operating on low power.  

Have you ever heard anything about mileage efficiency that Google's chrysler pacifica minivans that are opeating autonomously in AZ , they are power hungry as hell, their boot compartment has spare batteries just power the lidar system. And it's a hybrid car.

Try to read about power requirements that Google's autonomous cars need right now to operate. 

Equivalent to running a 1000 btu ac unit  

An ice car can't generate that much of electricity in the long run and also keep powering the wheels. Hence my point. 

Autonomous driving suits ev cars and that too tesla's approach, coz theirs is high computational  and low power need, it's also ready yet. 

On battery front , tesla will still have to find a successor to 4680's to get energy density above 300 wh/kg and also be cost effective to mfg. 

It's a target for 2025 le
