help me peeps with what kind of account to setup for saving for child college education? Is it tax free? how much savings need for college?

I was advised to save just as much as your state tax allows for a period of 10 to 12yrs. Its about 4k/yr in our state. That may turn out to be around 80k by the time kids go to college at 5k per year. This is because if we have a hefty 52nine plan, the colleges would know it and may not give a scholarship.
