If the demand for onions is really so high and supply is low then the price will be at 100. If onion farmers make huge profits at 100, then more farmers will move to onion farming and price will fall.

Supply will always lag the demand as it takes time to build it. But it would not be a good idea to keep prices low artificially.  that hurts the farmers a lot.

our Indian middle class is worst sucker and raises the most noise. They will pay 1000 rupees for KFC, Pizza hut etc and 3000 for a lee jeans but will cry when onion or milk become a bit more expensive.

Our Middle class wants benefits of western countries but wants servants at the same time and cheap vegetables and groceries etc. So we essentially benefit of the poor people.
