Nah, Silicon Valley happened for the same reason US happened. people were escaping the stuffy north east, just like people were escaping stuffy europe 200yrs back.

If anything, the pioneers of silicon valley were not from stanford. Fairchild was from harvard, Gordon Moore from Berkeley, and Noyce from MIT. 

and the man who started it all William Shockley of the Shockley labs was from England, and caltech.

stanford was just smart enough to catch that wave.

Aunu bro. I have been living in North Austin for the last 8 years and has seen tremendous growth. 4.5 years back when I was searching to buy a home, I saw a 20 acre land which was around 18,000 per acre. Now after 4.5 years, in the same land there’s a strip mall coming up with HEB grocery store and it’s around 400,000 per acre. Damn I lost a golden opportunity...
