To me, Indian muslims are no different from Hindus. In that, they share the same insecurities about 'outsiders', are patriarchal, are extremely conservative.

I don't know what that basic premise is, that won't allow peace. you are just trying to say that muslims are too dumb, and follow their religion to the hilt without any thought to consequences of following it such. and that there's no material reasons for the friction between hindus and muslims in India.

hindu-muslim is like any other tiff.. it is about how to share resources. if you wanna make it about religion, it shows how anti bhakt you really are.

personally, I feel more love towards muslims now than ever. 

not as a reaction to BJP's rise, or to prove some point. I genuinely feel comfortable around muslims now. ofcourse, most muslims I move around are atheists so that helps.

yeah. things got worse with Modi coming to power. no doubt.

people got more brazen about expressing bigotry. 

it created a climate of Hindu unity, that benefits BJP more. but it won't last.

again, I don't think liberalism can defeat HIndutva. Indians are not liberal enough for it to do that.
