Its a pragmatic decision. A consequence of their 2 language policy. do you want Telugu/Kannada kids to not learn Tamil while living in TN? They found more use in keeping Hindi out, than keeping Telugu/Kannada in.

There are obvious flaws with DMK. Its intellectual stagnation for one, and its failure to address dalit oppression in TN. But name another party with the intellectual heft of DMK.. apart from CPM, that is. DMK got everything right, in its policy. 

its bad that they have stagnated. like you said probably because of family control of the party. But I think the rot runs deeper than that. DMK has proved itself to be a right wing party propped up by land owners, and has hit the limit in its imagination for cultural and political change in the region that it transformed.

Time to chuck the DMK out. But the alternatives are like a million times worse.

DMK didn't kill any minorities doing so. both linguistic and religious.

It's funny that they cry about tamil suppression in Sri Lanka when they are doing much worse to neighbouring languages of their own state .

you talk as if they tortured Telugus in TN. did they disenfranchise them? I'm telugu in TN, and have never felt like an alien. I don't know where you get this impression that they are anti minority.

and that too, compare them with straight up bigots like BJP. yeah DMK is bigoted, but not against Telugus.. They are bigoted against lower classes, north indians(recent development), against leftist activists etc.

They did the same thing as Sri Lankans did in a more subtle way , without the violence . Slowly wiping away other languages in any way or form . 

Just look at how they are trying to rename Mahabalipuram to mamlapuram , even the locals call it Mahabalipuram , Dravidian bigots find innovative way to rewrite history . 

Ofcourse telugu people had a choice to move away or adapt which most of eelam Tamils didn't
