Breaking news :Andhra High Court CJ Shifted To Sikkim?

Andhra Pradesh high court is all set to get new chief justice in place of Justice J K Maheshwari in a day or two. 

 

He is all set to be replaced by another senior judicial officer Justice Arup Kumar Goswami. At present, Justice Goswami is serving as the chief justice of Sikkim high court. In his place, Justice Maheshwari would be appointed. In a way, it is a mutual transfer.

A five-member collegium of Supreme Court, which met in New Delhi on Monday, is understood to have taken the decision and made recommendations to the Central government on transfer of chief justices of some states, including that of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

 

While Justice Hima Kohli, a Delhi high court judge, will be appointed as CJ of Telangana, Justice Maheswari would be moved to Sikkim and Justice Goswami of Sikkim would move to Andhra Pradesh, reports from Delhi said.

As mentioned earlier, the transfer of Justice Maheshwari from Andhra Pradesh will be a big relief to the Jagan Mohan Reddy government as he had delivered a series of negative judgements against the government.

 

In fact, Jagan had even dashed off a letter to Chief Justice of India S A Bobde alleging that Justice Maheswari was following the instructions of Supreme Court judge Justice N V Ramana in deciding the roster of judges in dealing with the cases of his government.

This is a huge demotion for a HC judge  from a medium sized state to small state , only done to people who are facing severe allegations or when center deems a judge to be inconvenient to them
