I never felt any discomfort just because I understand hindi or felt undermined because my mother tongue is Telugu...

Its a mental status, unfortunately some cult groups feel inferior about their mother tongue and have such feelings.

I just think people go with the flow. anthe. most people accept what is thrown at them, and try to work stuff out within that.  This db is full of upper middle class people of many castes, and almost all of them share couple false notions

1. its their talent and hard work that got them to where they are

2. india is flawed, but still a decent union.

Its irrelevant how blessed you and your friends felt on knowing an extra language.

solutions cheppakadhara - just make it happen. Everyone what solutions is - these are not tough problems. Delhi aath care - why should it care when it has baanchans like you.

Imagine india capital is in  chennai and they make tamil announcements in uttarakhand, all parliament discussions only in tamil, all Pm tweets only in tamil, because somebody build a mosque near muruga temple in deep tamilnadu  people write "jai sri muruga" on their vans in delhi and start killing their muslim neighbors. This is how you people believe.

There are more Hindi audience in chennai than Tamil audience in Uttarakhand.

that's by design. first you send hindi speakers all around india in the name of central govt, and then provide services in Hindi.

ofcourse, this doesn't count the recent mass migration from these states. and I agree the issue of language in public spaces doesn't have the same ring it used to in the 70s, since everyone is everywhere these days.

what this govt did was celebrate hindi diwas every year by running competitions among some central employees and encourage hindi use in non-hindi states. Ofcourse this is offtopic, but this is one of the slimiest things attempted by recent union govts.
