That movie was so ahead of it's time though. Kubrick is a fascinating movie maker. 

It's a trippy movie, one that you should watch when you are high.

Its not as dry as some of the movies you have mind, going on about technical details of spacecrafts.

Interstellar is the exception. Its both gorgeous and has some emotional depth given to it purely by Jessica chastain.

Jessica Chastain to me is one of those few actresses that can give any character a good depth.

Yes. Arthur c Clarke however is a trained physicist I think and takes pain to keep details believable until the final part where the movie borders on fantastical

It gives us all that elon musk is promising us. Commercial travel to moon, mars base (haven't gotten to that part yet)
