If I were you, I would stay at least 1 night in key west so that you get 2 days and 1 night total to spend given you arrive early on first day. I know its expensive but worth it.

Things to do (below are based on my personal experience)

Miami:

Beaches:

If you like vibrant streets, pubs and night life, its better to stay in south beach. Its more suitable for teenagers and party animals.
Disadvantage: South beach streets hosts concerts frequently jamming the entire streets. If you are renting a hotel away from the beach, it takes very long time in heavy traffic to get to the south beach..sometimes more than an hour….But during covid I doubt if someone hosts concert but I still expect high holiday traffic.

On the other hand, If you are looking for a less crowded yet beautiful and placid beaches, North beach (fort lauderdale area) is ideal for you! Its more suitable for families and is not too far from south beach.

Wynwood (Art work )

  • Wynwood is a neighborhood in Miami packed with art, culture and innovation
  • in the 80s a rundown, crime-ridden neighborhood, forced some businesses out leaving abandoned warehouses which became a platform for the street artists to express their art work.
Little Havana:
  • If you want to see Cuba or its capital Havana, you don't have to cross the boarders…We have a version of Cuba in Miami neighborhood. Its called "little Havana". cuban coffee is popular here

Everglades: You can see alligators here, there are lot of these parks in florida.

Key West:

Water sports: jetski, kayaking, snorkel, parasailing can be best enjoyed here
Sunset celebration at mallory square:
The nightly festival hosts visitors from all over the world who come to take part in the magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists, and food vendors that combine for an incredible cultural experience. It is a fusion of friends and talents that has captivated tourists and locals alike.
Duval street: this is where the heartbeat of the city comes to life with a diverse array of restaurants, shops, world famous pubs and attractions.
The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory: if you have kids and time to explore
