Companies need to have state tax id for that particular state where that  employee is residing. For one single employee companies won’t take all the expense/risk of maintaining tax for the state just to hire that one particular employee.We issued offer to one potential employee all the way from Nebraska and at the end dropped the plan of hiring that resource due to all tax implications without any business location there. The company is an MNC with over 30 locations in US itself.
