My H1b with him expired so I was thinking once I get the EAD I caN join him using the EAD card and work for 6 months and move back to my Fulltime postion.

if i was you as youor goal is ead , apply thoough him there are risks for ability to pay etc but emi cheyalevu you have to apply,  

1) Apply as future emplyment (koddi rojulu avagane 140 approve cheopinchuk premium la after getting reciepy)

2) Get your eads (whihc no body knws hoow long it is taking ) you can join him on h1 or ead your chioice get high paid contract jooin him and work with him for some time  6 months mimimum

yes, assign chesina FY lone approval kuda undali but some cases go out of that window because of RFE delays etc. it is an exception but not a norm.

FY starting lo mannaki antu oka quota untundi for EB2 and EB3 etc and it gets released. adi overall ga 140K anukunta but not sure. ippudu unna applications aa 140K ki kante ekkuva unte they might retrogress because SO can only be applied in Q4.

retrogress undachu but not immediately like start of next FY. Filing dates kuda move cheyakapovachu until they have full clarity on pending applications vs available visas. akkada pedda difference unte they will retrogress until Q4 next year.
