We booked from hyd - del - Washington dc (dca) business class for my mom. airindia.

We directly booked business class but generally air India sends bidding options via emails few days prior to departure for upgrades in case any seats are still available. Upgrade at the airport is possible only if the seats are still vacant. No guarantee I think.

I never upgraded at the airport but heard its cheaper if upgraded at the airport but the seats should be available though.

my friend upgraded at airport to business class at airport they charge $800 he tells me economy on Air India is nightmare these times
