Groupism Even In Telangana BJP?

Generally, it is believed that Bharatiya Janata Party is a disciplined party and unlike in other parties like the Congress, there is hardly any scope for dissidence or groupism.

But the BJP in Telangana seems to be plagued with group rivalries, if not at the top, but at the lower level. Even as the party has been in a jubilant mood following the victory in Dubbak by-elections and its stupendous show in Greater Hyderabad Municipal elections, rumblings have begun here and there.

For example, in Peddapalli district, the BJP received a rude shock on Thursday when its district unit president and former chairman of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) Somparapu Satynarayana resigned from the post.

In his resignation letter to party state unit president Bandi Sanjay, the senior leader said the party was plagued with groupism.

“Without my knowledge, certain leaders are holding meetings and encouraging revolt against me. The party leaders and cadre in Peddapalli are not cooperating with me,” he said.

He also lamented that the high command did not approve of the list of the district committee appointed four months ago.

It is learnt he is unhappy with former MP G Vivek, who joined the party from the Congress, for interfering in the party activities in Peddapalli.

Somarapu, however, said he would continue in the BJP though he had resigned from the district party president post.

“Let the state party nominate any other leader as district party president,” he said.
