1) It’s all down to the wire with 10 days left for CWG. To remove the clouds of uncertainty on whether the Games would be held at all or not, PM Dr Manmohan Singh intervened to save beleaguered Suresh Kalmadi and his team and save India from being shamed in the international sports arena. In charge of the Commonwealth Games village now is Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit. A day after her government was directed by Union Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar to take charge of the village, she took stock of maintenance and cleanliness facilities at the complex here today. The handing over of the village in East Delhi to the Delhi government came after criticism over poor maintenance and filthy conditions at the village complex where sports persons would be staying. 2) But ‘as questions pile up, Kalmadi goes missing‘! There has been a notable silence from the man associated the most with the Delhi Games 2010. So, while top bureaucrats from the central as well as Delhi government made a beeline for the Village, the two top officials from the organising committee (OC), Kalmadi and the CEO, Jarnail Singh, were both missing in action. 3) In other news, a PTI report says Rajya Sabha MP Mani Shankar Aiyar, who was the first to raise questions over Commonwealth Games, attacked Games Federation Chief Executive Mike Hooper and its President Michael Fennell saying, “Fennel and Hooper were associated with Kalmadi since the beginning. What right do they now have to level allegations at the last minute? They are doing it just to save themselves.” More here.

4) And, more and more reports pile in of athletes pulling out of CWG. Australian PM Julia Gillard said it is ultimately for the athletes to decide if they want to attend the event or not. “We have also boosted the number of officials we have in New Delhi and we have others on standby,” Gillard reportedly said.
