what kind of advantages? being thrown in jail for protesting? 

People live inside a legal framework called nation. and those that protest use that framework to put their point of view, organize to make govt move on their demands.

To call them victimhood mongers is just silly. Its a copout because you can't actually address what they are saying about a certain govt action. And that makes you a victim monger too.
