Veta movie is based on a novel written 1844 called " The Count of Monte Cristo".  Shawshank redemption is also loosely based on that, to give credit to the book, their is library scene in the movie where they talk about this book.

May be the book is based on thr Alex Dumas novel but I think you are mistaken about the library scene, I believe in the move they talk about Treasure Island by R L Stevenson.

Shawshank redemption is one of my favorite movie. I remember ever scene. Complete the scene, you will see
